The project
Start from a short landscape sequence that is already coherent. You will make a separate portrait adaptation, keeping the original edit intact. Decide which publishing destination you are preparing for before the finishing pass.
1. Create a format copy
Use Meridian’s format-copy workflow and choose a portrait canvas. Name the sequence clearly. Check the active sequence name before changing any shot, title, or caption position.
A new canvas is a starting point. It does not decide which part of a wide shot tells the story best.
2. Follow the important subject
Review each shot and place the subject within the portrait composition. For movement, inspect the beginning, middle, and end. Use auto-reframe as assistance where appropriate, then correct any result that follows the wrong area or loses context.
Sometimes a different source range tells the story better in portrait. Treat that as an editorial choice and verify the surrounding cuts.
3. Rework the typography
Check title line breaks, font size, and caption placement. A landscape lower third may cover most of a portrait frame. Shorten the wording or give it a new layout.
Use safe-area guides and leave room for the receiving platform’s visible controls. Preview over the full moving shot rather than judging a single still.
4. Inspect the output settings
Open Deliver and confirm portrait dimensions. A saved delivery specification may have fixed output dimensions, so do not assume it follows the canvas automatically. Check caption behavior and the selected language again.
Review your result
Export a review file and watch at approximately phone size. Confirm that the main action, words, and ending remain understandable. Keep separate file names for landscape and portrait deliveries.
