Captions are timed content
A caption cue has text and a time interval. The track can carry language information, and its presentation controls how the words appear. Treat text, timing, language, and style as distinct decisions.
Open Edit Captions through Timeline → Captions or command search. Start from manually edited cues, generated speech captions, or an imported subtitle file.
Review before styling
Correct wording and boundaries first. Check names, punctuation, overlaps, and very short cues. A visually attractive caption can still be inaccurate or too fast to read.
Word-by-word presentation relies on word timing. Review the timing against speech before choosing a kinetic style and inspect the result over the actual footage.
Choose delivery explicitly
Burn-in becomes part of the picture. A sidecar is a separate subtitle file that the destination must load. Select the intended caption track and language in delivery settings; exporting a sidecar does not automatically embed it in the movie.
When a draft is pending, choose whether to keep or discard it before changing project context.
