Know the saved state
The project status indicates whether work is saved, pending, or needs attention. Use ⌘S to save explicitly at useful checkpoints. A saved project still depends on its referenced source media; saving is not a media backup.
Recover from a write failure
If an adjustment cannot be saved, keep the project open. Use Retry Save when the original location is available again, or Save a New Copy to preserve the current work elsewhere. Check that the chosen destination is writable and has enough free space.
Do not discard a pending draft just to dismiss a dialog. Close and Quit wait for a successful save or an explicit decision about pending work.
If the file changed on disk
Reload From Disk replaces the unsaved in-memory work with the disk version. Save a New Copy preserves the current work separately. Choose based on which edit you need to keep.
A named version is a deliberate checkpoint inside the project workflow. It is different from autosaving the current document and still needs the referenced media when restored.
