Precision trimming

Use ripple, roll, slip, and slide for different timing problems.

Choose the operation

Trim changes a clip edge. Ripple trim also shifts downstream material. Roll moves the edit between neighbors without changing their combined duration. Slip changes the source range inside a clip’s existing timeline position. Slide moves a clip while adjusting its neighbors.

Work in frames

Select the relevant clip or edit, inspect the precision-trim operation, and use the numeric step controls for exact changes. Start with a small adjustment and play across it. Source handles limit how far you can extend a clip or shift its internal range.

Linked selection and magnetic editing can affect the material that follows an operation. Check their state before a larger edit, especially when sound, titles, or overlays depend on the picture.

Inspect the surrounding sequence

A good trim is more than a clean still frame. Watch motion before and after the cut, listen for a clipped syllable, and verify the next edit. Use a roll when only the shared cut point should change; use a ripple when sequence duration should change.

If a requested edit is refused, inspect source bounds, neighboring clips, and track locks. Preserve the original timing with a named version before extensive revisions.
